FELICITY GEORGE

“There is nothing better than being in a stadium filled with thousands of fans and witnessing the passion they have for their team!”

Meet Felicity, the Head of Marketing & Communications at Cricket Victoria. She has been working in the sports industry for over 15 years in a range of areas from media, marketing, events & sponsorship management. Felicity’s career has provided opportunities to work in three countries - Australia, UK and Switzerland - and travel to many more.

THE OPPORTUNITIES SPORT BRINGS

“I want to be able to tell a story of the amazing opportunities I have had through my career, being able to work in multiple countries and travel to many more, and the wonderful people I have met along the way. I hope people can see how fortunate we can be in this industry and remember to take full advantage of what it can offer.”

A BIG MOVE, CHAMPIONED BY FAMILY

“I have had a few different people champion me over my career - initially it was my family for encouraging me to fly from Melbourne to London to interview for an internship with Arsenal, then when I started in the industry it was those few managers who supported me and helped me grow in confidence to take those next steps. Not all managers have been supportive of me, but this only helped me appreciate those who are (also teach me how I want to be as a manager to my own staff).”

THE SPORTING ATMOSPHERE

“The reason I love working in sport is seeing the passion that fans have for their game - whichever game it is. I always thrive on the atmosphere of a match day, and I have been so fortunate to have been to some huge games including multiple FIFA World Cup finals. There is nothing better than being in a stadium with thousands of fans and witnessing the passion they have for their team!”

MEDIA COVERAGE OF WOMEN’S SPORTS

“There is still a perception that women's sport should be marketed to women, but that is not the case. While the female audience percentage does increase for women's sport, at the end of the day it is people who have an interest in sport who are the most likely to consume it - so let's not forget that!”

FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP 2023, AUSTRALIA

“Here in Australia, the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 was huge for the whole country and the media attention and coverage that the Matilda's received was amazing. It was a great example of how sport can take on the interests of a whole country, and it doesn't have to be classified as male or female sport. The stadiums were sold out, the pubs were filled with people watching the games and the news coverage gave the tournament and players a lot of attention.”
