MARISA REICH

“Dreams begin with visualising it. The more we display, the more we will inspire.”

HerStory meets Marisa Reich, a seasoned C-level sport industry expert dedicated to catalysing personal and professional growth with nearly two decades of experience in sports management. Marisa, who most recently served as Head of People & Culture (CPCO) at OYM AG in Switzerland and is now an executive coach, draws her extensive background in athlete management, communication, and leadership roles with renowned entities like Infront Sports & Media, Red Bull, SCC EVENTS and the World Marathon Majors.

THE FUTURE OF STORYTELLING

“I envision more topics about executives and change makers in the sports business. Then, focusing on brands that support and invest in women’s sports. Finally, stories about the achievements of women in their sports - not on their appearance, but in competitive stories and their investment to become great.”

MEDIA PORTRAYAL OF FEMALE ATHLETES

“It is getting better, but we are not there yet. It’s not only the portrayal that needs to evolve but also the level of women’s sport. It has been less visible, lower paid and less supported so the level is not where it could be yet. The entire ecosystem needs to support women’s sport - not only within the sporting arena, but also in the broader sports business. Transformation starts at the top in the executive boards, C-levels and HR departments.“

CHALLENGING STEREOTYPES

“Women in sports have become more active and visible, and yet social norms and stereotypes weigh heavily and slow down the goal of gender equality. I believe that what can be seen, can be achieved. Dreams start with visualising it. The more we display, the more we will inspire. Even as a lecturer for sports management students, I always start my teaching with the encouragement to join, stay, show, dare and lead in the sports industry. Words and pictures matter- consciously and especially subconsciously. Challenging stereotypes, breaking down biases, promoting inclusion and respect for women takes time, will and courage to address and change the status quo.”

ROLE MODELS

“I admired not only athletes in the sport I did, but was looking up to athletes like Steffi Graf, Katarina Witt and Franziska van Almsick as well. Those women were an inspiration every time I slipped into my trainers and hit the track, but also later in my professional life in the sport business”
