SAM IANNOTTI

“Be authentic, invest in yourself, and recognise that every situation presents a chance to learn.”

A MESSAGE TO THE SPORTING INDUSTRY

“It is vital to foster a sense of community by supporting and uplifting other woman. Be the person who empowers women to build confidence and perform at their best.”

ILONA MAHER’S POSITIVE INFLUENCE IN SPORT

“As a former rugby player, I've been truly inspired by the USA Women's Rugby 7s Olympic Team and Ilona Maher for breaking barriers and demonstrating that women can be both fierce and beautiful without conforming to traditional beauty standards.

I’ve been really moved by the positive media attention surrounding Ilona as she spreads her message of body positivity and women’s empowerment. Her success in rugby, along with her modelling for Sports Illustrated and competing on Dancing with the Stars, makes her an inspiring role model for girls everywhere.”

SOME IMPORTANT ROLE MODELS

“Serena Williams has been a critical influence in my sports journey. Her strength and power, along with her ability to overcome societal challenges is inspirational. Additionally, I'm grateful for my current boss, Denise Pagano, who champions female leaders, showing that it's possible to balance professional responsibilities, personal aspirations, and motherhood.”

REPRESENTATION OF FEMALE ATHLETES

“Recently, I believe female athletes are gaining more visibility in sports media, but there’s still a long way to go. While we’re seeing increased coverage of women’s sports and more diverse narratives, the representation is often limited to a few high-profile events or athletes. Additionally, coverage sometimes focuses more on appearance or personal lives rather than athletic achievements. Overall, progress is being made, but it’s important to continue advocating for equal representation and recognition of female athletes’ accomplishments.”

COVERAGE OF WOMEN IN SPORT

“I would love to see more consistent coverage of women's sports in the media throughout the year, as opposed to coverage just during high-profile events. Additionally, there's a need for an increased representation of female sports, including a broader range of disciplines, talents, and athletes, rather than sole focus on just those who are renowned and successful.”
