MASSIMO’S SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS

“One of the achievements I’m most proud of in my sporting career is competing as an athlete at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Representing my country on the world stage was a defining moment, showcasing years of dedication, resilience, and passion for sailing.

Additionally, receiving the World Sailing President’s Development Award in 2018 was a significant honor, recognizing my contributions to the growth of sailing globally. These experiences not only shaped my career but also reinforced my commitment to fostering inclusivity and development in sport.”

RESILIENCE, GROWTH, AND IMPACT IN THE SPORTS INDUSTRY

“My path has been about pushing boundaries and creating opportunities for others. My goal is to leave behind a legacy of inclusivity and development, ensuring that sport remains accessible to all, regardless of background or ability.

I want to inspire future generations to believe that, with passion and dedication, they too can shape the future of sports.”

MISCONCEPTIONS IN PARA SPORT

“One of the biggest misconceptions about para sport and athletes is that it is purely about overcoming disability rather than recognizing elite athletic performance.

Para athletes are not defined by their impairments but by their talent, dedication, and competitive spirit, just like any other high-performance athlete.

Another misconception is that Para sports are less demanding—when in reality, they require the same, if not more, level of discipline, training, and commitment as any other sport.

It’s important to shift the focus from limitations to the incredible skill, resilience, and achievements of these athletes.”

MOVING SPORT FORWARD

“Sports organizations and federations have the power to shape a future where inclusion is the standard, not the exception. They must support para sport by investing in development, increasing visibility, and ensuring that every athlete has the resources to succeed. Beyond competitions, they have a responsibility to fight ableism by challenging stereotypes, breaking down barriers, and fostering a culture that values all athletes equally.

True progress happens when sport becomes a driving force for change, proving that talent and determination—not disability—define greatness.”

LEVELLING THE FIELD

"Leveling the Field" in sport means ensuring that every athlete, regardless of background or ability, has the opportunity to chase their dreams on equal footing. It’s about breaking down barriers, challenging stereotypes, and creating a world where talent, determination, and passion define success—not limitations.”

“Through my work  I strive to build a more inclusive future where everyone has the chance to shine. When we open doors for others, we don’t just change sport—we change lives.”

“Hard work, resilience, and passion will open doors you never imagined, so trust the process and stay committed to your goals. Most importantly, believe in yourself–because the journey ahead will be worth it”
