Léa Battistolo

“Sarah Meier, the Swiss skater, inspired my dreams as a young athlete and instilled in me the desire to persevere in the sport and to truly love what I do.”

Meet Léa, a dietician and nutritionist in sport performance who is passionate about sport. She did figure skating from age 6 and is now a keen runner, taking part in long-distance races.

ATHLETE MENTAL HEALTH

“Athletes are now able to talk openly about their mental health. It has become less taboo, and with the evolution of multidisciplinary care for athletes, mental health is taken seriously.

Coaches play a central role in the mental well-being of athletes. In high-level sports, athletes spend most of their time with their coaches, so these relationships can have a direct impact on their overall well-being. Coaches understand the demands of the sport and can refer athletes to specialists when needed.”

SUPPORTING ATHLETE’S MENTAL HEALTH

“I think it's important for athletes to be monitored by a sports psychologist and a mental trainer for stress management, as well as for support during injuries and difficult periods in their careers.

Don’t close yourself off to the sport, but to take a step back from the situation. Even if top-level sport is hard work, it's important not to accept everything, but to know how to take a step back and listen to your body and mental health.”

LÉA’S JOURNEY IN SPORT

“Life isn’t linear, and every step, difficult or not, contributes to creating your own story and career. Everything happens for a reason, and it’s important not to let your dreams and passions fall by the wayside. Each stage of life brings valuable experiences.”
